Due to the spread of COVID-19 all over the world, the exhibition industry was one of the most hard-hit industries, nearly all fairs in the first half of 2020 are cancelled, thus the online exhibitions naturally became one of the channels for factories to save themselves. However, we have to face the fact that there are no successful cases of online exhibitions!

 

Online exhibition is not something new, there have been pioneers in the PC age of the Internet. After entering the mobile Internet, there are a group of new players, the newcomers are information technology companies, media operators, exhibition organizers and even government departments. These riders cover the relevant parties of the exhibition interests, which is commendable. But so far, there is no successful case for online exhibition to be generalized.

 

 

Today, all business models online are just another reinvention of the traditional demand, actually, the demand itself is not changed, for example, online shopping, online ordering, physical delivery etc. Online courses are the same, which adopts the technology of the Internet to achieve home class, the essential needs of the class is not changed.

 

What exactly are the needs of the exhibition? Many people may have misunderstandings.

Most international exhibitions are aimed at B2B trade markets, such as Light Fair in USA, Canton Fair in China and Frankfurt lighting+building in Germany. The purpose of brand participating in the exhibition is not to sell goods, but to find partners, distributors, retailers. The purpose of the factory like Long Sun is to find the brand owners, importers, distributors based on OEM and ODM. Especially in the overseas exhibition, the offline exhibition  is stronger than the online , it’s still the traditional method.

 

For a B2B end exhibition design, we should consider the promotion of trade and brand display by publicity and booth planning. The buyer comes to the booth to see the function of the product like LED high bay light, they can touch the material of the product, negotiate the payment terms or even sign a contract, realize this possibility, while the current online technology is almost impossible to achieve these. There's a big gap between face-to-face and video chat, you know you are talking about business, and the trust is will be compromised through video.

 

The confusion of online exhibitions is the fact that they cannot be distinguished from e-commerce platforms. If there is a profitable online exhibition, it can only be the model of Amazon, Ebay or TaoBao etc. If exhibition organizers develop this kind of business, its business is not exhibition but e-commerce, the competitor should be Alibaba. For this reason, we have not seen any cases that the exhibition organizers abandoned offline exhibitions and transformed into e-commerce platforms so far.

 

In a word, the exhibition is a natural product of economic development, which is a platform created by buyers and sellers to meet information and demand. Online shows were failed because there is no demand for them, and there is not necessary to continue them at present.

 

 

The revival of the exhibition industry is not the popular of online exhibitions, but the re-opening of offline exhibitions. If offline exhibitions stay closed for a long time, the exhibition venues and projects will not survive, and the transportation, hotel, catering, advertising and tourism industries related to the exhibition will also be greatly affected.

If the COVID-19 virus is going to co-exist with human society for a long time, will social activities (such as sports games, stage shows, movies, school classes, restaurant dinners  which gather large numbers of people, including the convention and exhibition industry) move to online instead of offline?? You will have a clear answer

 

Therefore, it is necessary to resume the offline exhibition. It is just a matter of time and the prevention and control of the epidemic during the resumption of the exhibition.
