Information

Unlike most commercial growers, cannabis growers prefer to grow in smaller Spaces. Greenhouse structures and modern horticultural planting techniques offer significant benefits over typical indoor planting. However, it has the disadvantage of increasing the risk of crop transmission by disease or insect pests.

How to create an ideal environment for the growth of cannabis, we need to control the following aspects.

1. Location

We have to say that not all greenhouse manufacturers or cannabis growing consultants have experience in different geographical locations. Some builders may try to sell you a successful greenhouse in California, but if you are in Canada or Thailand, the greenhouse you need to build will be very different.

2. Control humidity

We all know that humidity is important for plants. The air humidity in the facility is mainly related to soil evaporation, spray water replenishment and plant transpiration, followed by ventilation and heating. In addition, the absorption and evaporation of water from the inner wall of the shed will also affect the indoor humidity to a certain extent. Air humidity in greenhouse has significant effect on transpiration, photosynthesis, disease occurrence and physiological disorders of greenhouse crops.

Too much or too little is bad for plants to grow. Cannabis actually likes higher humidity during the growth phase, but lower humidity during flowering. Thus,  greenhouse manufacturers need to think ahead about flexibility in greenhouse design. For areas where a wet mist system is required, a dehumidifier can be added to the greenhouse design.

3. Control the temperature

Cannabis requires different temperatures at different stages of growth. Generally, we need to control the greenhouse temperature between 65 and 85°F. We need to control the heating and cooling system of the greenhouse to meet the temperature needs of each area. Inexperienced consultants may give you the wrong message by saying that you don't need as much heating as the lights generate a lot of heat. But in reality, cannabis usually only needs 18 or 12 hours of light, and we need to control the temperature during the night without light.

4. Good ventilation

Ventilation brings in plenty of carbon dioxide. As we all know, green plants need carbon dioxide for photosynthesis and exhale oxygen at the same time. If ventilation is not good, local carbon dioxide concentration will be low, which is not conducive to photosynthesis. Greenhouse ventilation is divided into natural ventilation and forced ventilation. Natural ventilation generally refers to the roof vent, roll edge and side wall vent; Forced ventilation generally requires the use of exhaust fans, etc. Most greenhouse growers place airflow fans in their greenhouses to enhance air flow, which helps keep plants healthy. The location of fans optimized for airflow coverage will be shown on the greenhouse plan.

5. Lighting level

Light is an important factor in growing plants in greenhouses. How fast and how long a plant remains active depends on the amount of light it receives. Light energy is used for photosynthesis, the most basic metabolic process in plants.

Unlike indoor farming, greenhouse farming can absorb some of the sunlight. But plant complementary lighting is becoming more and more important if you want to achieve higher yields. For example, the Toplighting Eagle series from HighGrow  is a very suitable LED grow light special for greenhouse light, it is true 1:1 HPS light replacement.

6. The flowering phase requires a power cut

The growing stage requires high light levels, but what many people don't know is that cannabis is a short-day crop and requires longer periods of darkness to bloom. 12 hours of uninterrupted darkness will allow cannabis plants to bloom according to the production schedule.
